For any eCommerce website today, it is essential to have high-quality images of each product. Reason for this? Customers otherwise wouldn’t have the ability to visualise what they are intending to purchase. Poorly shot photographs are dissatisfying for customers and can often make a website/the company appear unprofessional. As a Product Photographer, you always want to help a business achieve customer satisfaction when they are shopping online.
What is the process for Product Photography?
Product Photography shoots can be extremely time-consuming, depending on how many products are needed to be photographed.
Product Preparation: Time that it takes to prepare/ or assemble a product. This is something that the client can prepare before the photo shoot.
- Before the shoot, the client needs to provide a list of all products to be photographed
- Making sure all of the products are clean, e.g. no unwanted labels
- Laying out all the products for the Photographer before arriving at the shoot
Set Construction / Set Design: The client must always allow the Photographer 30 minutes to set up and 30mins to pack down.
- The materials and people required to construct the set, e.g. backdrop
- The additional products required to be included in the set
Product Styling: During the shoot, it is best to have the client, or a staff member from the business, help the Photographer style, and guide how the client would like the products to look. E.g. what pieces of clothing go together and how the clothing should sit on the model.
Product Layout: This part of the process can be the most tedious and time consuming for a Photographer. It is based on the time it takes to layout the product, to correct the product’s position, angle, and the center point when looking through the camera. Photographers normally suggest 5 minutes per product, give or take.
